Boys’ Tennis

Wolfhounds’ Boys Tennis is a club program that’s focused on giving boys in the 6, 7 and 8th grades the chance to compete in competitive matches.

Experienced players, as well as boys who are new to the game, are welcome to join the team.  The team currently includes players from St. Brigid and St. Michael parishes.  Eligible players can be enrolled in the parish schools or parishioners who attend public school.

Team recruitment begins in November giving boys time to prepare on their own time in the winter so they are ready to have fun in the spring. Boys are encouraged to walk on with basics like a dependable serve, solid groundstrokes and volleying skills. Coaches are willing to help new players and their parents locate affordable tennis programs that operate year round which will build skills before team season start.

A once weekly indoor practice will be held starting February 21. The boys’ match season begins in late March and runs through early May.  Team matches are played against private and public school teams from the Columbus area. The matches are all local. Parent transportation is required, but carpools are possible.

Most practices and matches occur after school – typically three days per week.  It’s a compressed season but workable team schedule that allows boys to concurrently participate in another sport or activity – and have a life off the tennis court. Talk with the coaches if you’re interested in learning more about the time commitment.

We’re in this for the fun and fellowship that team tennis can bring the boys not to bring home a state title (if there was one!)  We hope we’ll get the chance to help your son develop his love of tennis.
