Have a question?
Send it to the Football Commissioner and we will post it here!
Q: When will practices start, and what days of the week will they be?
A: Practices will begin on Monday, August 7th, 2017. There will be four days of conditioning without pads (helmets, shorts and tshirts), one day of pads with no contact, and then full pads/full contact from that point on. IMPORTANT: if your player misses the required conditioning days, he will be required to make them up before being allowed to make contact. And no – attendance at our summer conditioning sessions do not count.
The practice schedule will be 4-5 days a week before school starts. Once school starts we are restricted to three days per week for 4th, 5th and 6th grades, 4 days for Varsity. The individual coaches will decide the days of the week to practice.
Q: What do I need to purchase?
A: We provide helmets, shoulder pads and game jerseys. Thanks to the generosity of Dr. Phillip Elmo, the kids also have an opportunity to get a free custom fit mouth guard. You will need to purchase:
- Mouth guard (if you do not get one from Dr. Elmo)
- White football pants with pads (the ones with the integrated pads are worth the extra dollars, unless you enjoy frustration)
- Practice jersey:
- Varsity (7th/8th grades): white
- 6th grade: yellow
- 5th grade: green
Q: When are the games and when do they start?
A: Games are played on Sunday afternoons. The game times will vary throughout the season – we could play as early as noon or as late as 4:00 or 5:00 PM.
League games will begin in Mid-September, with final bowl games in late October. 4th grade teams will not have a bowl game. Actual game times do not get released until just before the first game. Game times will be posted on the individual team pages of this site as soon as the diocese releases them.
Q: What are the weight limits?
A: There is NO limit to the amount a player can weigh, but weight is a factor in what position they may play. In general, here are the classifications:
- Unrestricted: may play any position
- Striper: may not play in the offensive backfield/cannot carry the football
- X er: must play offensive or defensive line
